Bigger is not always better when it comes to window air conditioners. In fact, a unit that is too large may cool the room quickly but not remove the humidity. Bring your room measurements and window measurements to Thacker Ace Hardware and we’ll help.
Yes, Thacker Ace Hardware carries heating supplies and space heater options. For safety, a space heater needs to be placed on a stable surface, kept away from anything that can burn, and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Start with the size printed on your current filter. If you are not sure, bring the old filter with you or take a clear photo of the label. Air filters help protect your HVAC system and can also support better indoor air quality by capturing dust, pollen, pet dander, and other particles.
The right filter depends on your system. We can help you match the size and talk through options.
Measure the room using length times width. The rough rule is about 20 BTU per square foot. For example, a 150-square-foot bedroom needs around 5,000 BTU, and a 350-square-foot master or den needs 8,000.
Then adjust for the things that make the room unique. Does it get a lot of afternoon sun? If so, add 10%.
For the standard one-inch filters most Tri-Cities homes use, you should change them every 90 days. If you have pets, consider changing them every 60 days.

We never recommend running a space heater at night or while you are sleeping. In our opinion, it’s just not worth the risk.
